Overview

Two systems. One goal.

Desert Sands is the only clinic in St. George performing combination laser therapy — a multi-system approach that targets all three main skin layers: the epidermis, the dermis, and the subcutaneous tissue. Shannon Evans personally selects the right system — or the right combination of systems — based on your skin's condition and your goals. "Everyone has different skin care concerns, because no one is the same. I consider it an art."

Laser skin resurfacing slows the aging process by stimulating the production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid — the building blocks of healthy, youthful skin. While other treatments may temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles, laser therapy addresses the underlying structural changes that produce them. Each laser skin treatment at Desert Sands begins with a thorough professional skin consultation to determine the most appropriate approach for your specific concerns.

  • Two distinct resurfacing systems for different skin concerns and downtime tolerance
  • The only clinic in St. George performing combination laser therapy
  • Only med spa in the St. George area offering MD-supervised comfort sedation

System 01 CO2RE Fractional Laser

CO2RE Skin Resurfacing.

"The CO2RE is the best single treatment on the market for advanced skin damage and wrinkling." — Shannon Evans, RN

CO2RE fractional laser resurfacing removes layers of skin tissue in a fractionated method — columns of skin are removed, leaving the surrounding skin intact to aid in healing. The laser precisely targets and treats the superficial, middle, and deep skin layers simultaneously, providing the most appropriate treatment with maximum results for each facial area during the same session.

  • Reduces age spots, fine lines, and wrinkles
  • Improves textural irregularities and dull skin tone
  • Improves skin laxity and firmness
  • Targets all three skin layers in a single treatment
  • Ablative resurfacing — more intensive, more dramatic results
  • Comfort sedation available from Dr. Eric Evans, MD

Downtime: 5–7 days · Ideal for: Advanced sun damage, deep wrinkles, significant laxity

System 02 Ellipse Frax 1550

Ellipse Frax Skin Resurfacing.

"The Frax 1550 will slow down and even reverse the visible signs of skin aging — removing age spots and leaving the skin looking fresher and less wrinkled." — Shannon Evans, RN

The Ellipse Frax 1550 is a non-ablative fractional laser that works on the face, neck, and chest to smooth textural irregularities and improve overall skin texture without removing the outer skin layer. Because the skin remains intact, healing and recovery are quick — improvement can be seen in as little as one treatment. The Frax 1550 is less invasive than ablative lasers, with minimal downtime and very few side effects.

  • Treats wrinkles, fine lines, scars, and age spots
  • Addresses sun damage and uneven pigmentation
  • Face, neck, and chest — a single treatment area or all three
  • Non-ablative — skin remains intact, minimal downtime
  • Scar pricing: $95 first sq. inch, $25 each additional sq. inch
  • Packages of 3 or more: 15% off total price

Downtime: 1–2 days · Ideal for: Mild-moderate concerns, active patients, face/neck/chest

Choosing Your Treatment

Which system is right for you?

Both systems resurface the skin and stimulate collagen — but they do so through different mechanisms, with different levels of intensity and recovery. Shannon Evans will recommend the appropriate system during your consultation based on your skin's condition, your downtime tolerance, and the results you want to achieve.

CO2RE
Ablative · All Three Layers

Most powerful resurfacing option. Treats the superficial, middle, and deep layers simultaneously. Best for advanced sun damage, deep wrinkles, and significant laxity. More dramatic results with more significant recovery time. Comfort sedation available from Dr. Eric Evans, MD.

Ellipse Frax
Non-Ablative · Minimal Downtime

Gentler resurfacing with minimal downtime. Skin remains intact throughout treatment — the outer layer is not removed. Better suited for mild to moderate concerns, patients with active schedules, or those treating the neck and chest where extended recovery is impractical.

CO2RE + Profound
The Ultimate Combination

Profound Lift targets the deeper layers to stimulate collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production. CO2RE targets the upper layer for tightening and pigment correction. Together they address both structural and surface aging — Shannon calls this "the ultimate skin rejuvenation treatment."

Timing
November–March Is Ideal

Nearly all laser treatments leave skin highly sensitive to UV exposure. St. George's high-altitude sun makes timing critical. Shorter days and cooler temperatures from November through March allow treated skin to heal without sun compromise — and deliver the best long-term results.

The Ultimate Combination

CO2RE + Profound — the full attack.

Desert Sands is the only clinic in Southern Utah offering the Profound system for skin tightening — and the only med spa using it in combination with CO2RE resurfacing for what Shannon Evans calls "the ultimate skin rejuvenation treatment."

Profound targets the deeper layers of the skin to stimulate the production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid, while the CO2RE laser targets the upper layer for overall tightening and reduction in age spots, lines, and wrinkles. It is a targeted attack on problem areas both superficial and structural — treating the face at every depth in a single combined session.

  • Profound: 100% response rate to facial wrinkles (clinical trials)
  • CO2RE: surface tightening, pigment correction, texture improvement
  • Both treatments in one session — combined comfort sedation package available

What It Treats

Skin concerns laser resurfacing addresses.

Between CO2RE and Ellipse Frax, Desert Sands can address virtually every surface and textural skin concern that accumulates from aging, sun exposure, and the high-UV climate of Southern Utah.

01

Fine Lines & Wrinkles

Both systems address fine lines and wrinkles — CO2RE for deeper, more established lines, and Frax for the finer lines that accumulate gradually with sun exposure and aging. The collagen stimulation both systems trigger continues to improve wrinkle depth over the months following treatment.

02

Age & Sun Spots

Both CO2RE and Frax are highly effective at reducing brown spots, age spots, and sun damage. The fractional laser energy breaks down excess melanin pigment and removes damaged skin tissue, revealing clearer, more even-toned skin as the treated area heals.

03

Skin Texture

Rough skin texture, large pores, and the uneven surface created by years of sun exposure and aging respond well to both systems. CO2RE addresses more significant textural irregularities; Frax smooths milder concerns with less recovery. Both stimulate new, healthier skin cells to replace damaged ones.

04

Scars

Acne scars, chicken pox scars, surgical scars, and self-inflicted scars can all be addressed with the Frax 1550. The fractional laser remodels scar tissue by stimulating new collagen in and around the scar, progressively improving its texture and appearance over a series of treatments. Priced from $95 per square inch.

05

Skin Laxity

CO2RE resurfacing addresses mild to moderate skin laxity by stimulating collagen in all three layers of the dermis. For significant laxity, the CO2RE and Profound combination produces the most dramatic tightening results available without surgery in Southern Utah.

06

Dull Tone & Radiance

The overall loss of luminosity and radiance that accompanies years of sun exposure and cellular turnover slowdown responds well to both systems. Resurfacing removes damaged surface skin cells and stimulates fresh new tissue, restoring the healthy glow that photoaged skin loses over time.

Candidacy

Who is a good candidate?

Laser skin resurfacing is appropriate for a wide range of patients. Common presentations we treat include:

  • Sun damage accumulated from years in Southern Utah's high-UV climate
  • Fine lines, wrinkles, or deeper creases affecting confidence
  • Age spots, brown spots, or uneven skin tone
  • Rough skin texture, large pores, or dull complexion
  • Acne scars, chicken pox scars, or other textural scarring
  • Mild to moderate skin laxity on the face, neck, or chest
  • Patients wanting to combine resurfacing with Profound Lift for full rejuvenation

Shannon will determine which system is appropriate based on your skin type, the severity of your concerns, your downtime tolerance, and your overall treatment goals. Both systems require sun-free skin at the time of treatment.

Plan ahead for recovery

CO2RE resurfacing requires five to seven days of visible recovery — plan your schedule accordingly. November through March is the optimal time to undergo resurfacing in St. George, as lower UV exposure makes the post-treatment period safer and more manageable. We discuss timing in detail at your consultation.

What to Expect

Treatment, recovery, & results.

CO2RE Duration

45–90 Min

CO2RE resurfacing sessions take 45 to 90 minutes depending on the area treated. Comfort sedation is available and recommended for more intensive sessions — the package includes the sedation and a post-procedure care kit.

Frax Duration

30–60 Min

Ellipse Frax sessions take 30 to 60 minutes. No sedation is required. A topical anesthetic is applied before treatment for comfort. The face, neck, and chest can be treated in the same session.

CO2RE Downtime

5–7 Days

CO2RE resurfacing involves significant recovery — redness, swelling, and skin shedding over five to seven days as treated tissue heals and renews. Strict sun avoidance and the provided post-procedure kit support optimal healing and results.

Frax Downtime

1–2 Days

Ellipse Frax involves minimal downtime. The skin remains intact and most patients return to normal activity within one to two days. Mild redness and sensitivity are typical for the first day or two following treatment.

The Process

From consultation to renewed skin.

01

Professional Skin Consultation

Shannon evaluates your skin condition, reviews your concerns, and recommends the appropriate system — CO2RE, Ellipse Frax, or the CO2RE and Profound combination. She discusses downtime, expectations, and the best time of year for your treatment. Every treatment at Desert Sands begins with a thorough and caring consultation.

02

In-Office Treatment

CO2RE resurfacing can be performed under MD-supervised comfort sedation — Dr. Eric Evans, MD administers sedation before the procedure for a completely relaxed experience. Ellipse Frax is performed with topical anesthetic and requires no sedation. Both treatments are completed in a single appointment.

03

Recovery & Results

You leave with a post-procedure care kit (CO2RE) or specific aftercare instructions (Frax). Results develop over four to six weeks as collagen remodeling progresses, with continued improvement over several months. Package treatments of three or more Frax sessions produce the most significant cumulative results.

FAQ

Common questions.

What is the difference between CO2RE and Ellipse Frax?
CO2RE is an ablative fractional CO2 laser that removes columns of skin tissue — treating the superficial, middle, and deep layers simultaneously. It is the most powerful resurfacing option for advanced damage and significant results, but requires five to seven days of recovery. Ellipse Frax 1550 is a non-ablative fractional laser that heats tissue without removing the outer skin layer, resulting in minimal downtime and making it better suited for milder concerns or patients who cannot afford significant recovery time. Shannon recommends the appropriate system based on your skin and lifestyle.
Is laser skin resurfacing painful?
Desert Sands is the only medical spa in Southern Utah offering MD-supervised comfort sedation for laser skin resurfacing — administered by Dr. Eric Evans, MD, a board-certified anesthesiologist. Patients choosing CO2RE resurfacing can elect complete comfort sedation, which is available as part of a package that also includes the post-procedure care kit. Ellipse Frax is performed with topical anesthetic and is well tolerated without sedation.
How many treatments will I need?
CO2RE resurfacing often achieves significant results in a single session, with continued improvement over the following months. Ellipse Frax typically benefits from a series — improvement can be seen in as little as one treatment, with packages of three or more producing the most significant and lasting results (15% off when treating the same area). Shannon will set a realistic treatment plan based on your specific concerns and skin condition.
What is the CO2RE + Profound combination?
Desert Sands is the only clinic in Southern Utah offering the Profound system and CO2RE in combination. Profound targets the deeper skin layers to stimulate collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production for structural tightening. CO2RE targets the upper skin layer for surface tightening, pigment correction, and texture improvement. Together they address aging at every depth — Shannon calls this "the ultimate skin rejuvenation treatment." The combination is performed in a single session with MD-supervised sedation available.
When is the best time of year for laser resurfacing?
November through March is the ideal time for laser skin resurfacing in St. George. Nearly all laser treatments leave skin highly sensitive to UV exposure during recovery, and St. George's high-altitude, high-UV environment makes sun avoidance especially important after treatment. Shorter days, cooler temperatures, and reduced outdoor activity during the winter months make it easier to protect treated skin and achieve the best long-term results.
How much does laser skin resurfacing cost?
Pricing depends on the system used, the area treated, and whether sedation is included. Ellipse Frax scar pricing is $95 for the first square inch and $25 for each additional square inch; packages of three or more treatments to the same area receive a 15% discount. CO2RE facial resurfacing with comfort sedation is available as a package. We discuss all costs transparently at your consultation with no obligation to proceed.
