Dr. Eric Evans, MD is a board-certified anesthesiologist and Desert Sands' medical director. Every consultation and procedure in the regenerative medicine program is conducted or directly overseen by Dr. Evans personally — never delegated to non-physician staff.
During your consultation, Dr. Evans will tell you plainly what's understood, what isn't, and whether he believes biologic allograft therapy is right for you. HCT/P stands for Human Cells, Tissues, and Cellular and Tissue-Based Products. An allograft is tissue donated by one person and administered to another. Under FDA rules (21 CFR Part 1271), HCT/Ps that are minimally manipulated and used homologously fall under Section 361 of the Public Health Service Act — meaning they skip the drug-approval pathway but are still subject to FDA registration, screening, and manufacturing standards.
Are these products FDA-approved?
No — and that's by design, not a gap. Hyagen Medical™ products are regulated as HCT/P allografts under Section 361, a distinct classification from approved drugs. They don't go through clinical trials the way pharmaceuticals do, but they are subject to FDA registration, AATB-accredited manufacturing, donor screening, and current Good Tissue Practice (cGTP) rules.
Where does the tissue come from?
Ethically donated perinatal umbilical cord tissue. Donors consent and are screened for communicable disease per AATB standards. No embryonic tissue is used, and nothing is purchased.
