Injectable Biostimulators

Not fillers —
collagen rebuilders.

Traditional dermal fillers add volume by injecting a substance that occupies space beneath the skin. Biostimulators work differently — they stimulate your skin's own biology to produce new collagen, elastin, and structural proteins. The volume you gain is built from your own tissue. The results emerge gradually, look entirely natural, and last far longer than most hyaluronic acid fillers.

At Desert Sands, we offer both Sculptra (Poly-L-Lactic Acid) and Radiesse (Calcium Hydroxylapatite) — two of the most clinically studied biostimulators available. Your provider will help determine which option, or which combination, is right for your anatomy and goals.

  • Both FDA-approved for aesthetic and reconstructive use
  • Stimulate collagen, elastin, and key structural proteins
  • Results build gradually — no sudden, obvious change
  • Longer-lasting than standard hyaluronic acid fillers
  • Look and feel like you — naturally restored

The Treatments

Sculptra & Radiesse — how they work.

Both are biostimulators. Both produce natural, long-lasting results. The difference is in how they get there — and your provider will guide you toward the right choice for your skin and goals.

Collagen Stimulator

Sculptra

Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) · FDA Approved Since 1999

Sculptra is a sterile suspension of PLLA — a biocompatible polymer from the alpha-hydroxy-acid family, the same material used in dissolvable sutures. When injected, it provides a scaffold beneath the skin that your body gradually absorbs, producing new collagen in its place. The correction builds slowly over several weeks and continues to improve across a treatment series.

Sculptra is particularly suited for patients with diffuse facial volume loss, hollow cheeks, deep folds, and early structural sagging — where a gradual, natural-looking restoration is the goal.

  • Biocompatible PLLA — no allergy testing required
  • FDA approved for aesthetic and reconstructive use
  • Stimulates natural collagen production over time
  • Results typically last one to two years
  • 3–6 sessions, 30 days apart, for complete correction
  • Used in 30+ countries since 1999
Regenerative Biostimulator

Radiesse

Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) · FDA Approved

Radiesse uses Calcium Hydroxylapatite microspheres — an ingredient that also occurs naturally in the body — to activate your skin's regenerative pathways. Unlike biostimulators that rely on the body's immune system, Radiesse works through a non-inflammatory pathway, making the regeneration process organized and precise. Clinical studies have shown it boosts collagen production and increases elastin, while also supporting new blood flow to nourish skin tissue.

Radiesse addresses nasolabial folds, jawline contour, volume loss in the hands, and skin quality across the face and décolleté — with results that can last up to two years.

  • Boosts collagen and increases elastin through biostimulation
  • Works via non-inflammatory pathway — organized, not scar-like
  • Provides immediate volume alongside long-term stimulation
  • Results can last up to two years
  • FDA approved for face, hands, jawline, and décolleté
  • Also addresses skin quality — glow, hydration, and firmness
The Science

Results that build over time.

"The ultimate result is fuller looking skin — plumper, bouncier, and more youthful overall. Because the results are natural, no one will be able to tell you had any work done."

Both Sculptra and Radiesse trigger your skin's own regenerative process. The microspheres or PLLA particles act as a scaffold beneath the skin — as your body absorbs them, it responds by producing new collagen and elastin around the treatment site. This means the volume you gain is your own, built by your own biology.

Because biostimulation takes time, results emerge gradually rather than appearing overnight. This is not a limitation — it is the feature. The improvement is progressive, natural-looking, and distinctly your own. No sudden change marks you as having had anything done.

The Desert Sands Difference

Three ways to boost naturally — for results that last.

Sculptra and Radiesse rebuild your foundation from within. But at Desert Sands, we take that further — pairing your biostimulator program with PRX-T33 AquaGold, a unique treatment available right here in St. George that works at the skin's surface to amplify and maintain your results year-round. Together, these three approaches address every layer of your skin, stimulate collagen at multiple depths, and keep you looking confident and refreshed in every season.

01
Sculptra
Poly-L-Lactic Acid · Deep Structural Layer

Rebuilds facial volume and structural support from deep within the dermis. PLLA particles stimulate your body to produce new collagen over time — restoring fullness, softening deep folds, and reversing the gradual hollowing that comes with age. Results emerge slowly, look entirely natural, and last one to two years.

02
Radiesse
Calcium Hydroxylapatite · Structural + Surface Layer

CaHA microspheres provide immediate lift alongside long-term biostimulation — boosting collagen, increasing elastin, and supporting new blood flow to nourish skin tissue. Addresses the face, jawline, hands, and décolleté, improving both structure and overall skin quality with results lasting up to two years.

03
PRX-T33 & AquaGold
Biorevitalization · Surface + Dermal Layer · Exclusive to Desert Sands

Our unique PRX and AquaGold treatments work at the skin's surface to stimulate collagen, improve tone and texture, and deliver active ingredients precisely where they matter most — with zero downtime. Paired with your biostimulator program, PRX maintains and amplifies your results between appointments, keeping your skin in peak condition year-round.

Skin that looks healthy, feels like yours, and keeps getting better — all year long.

When Sculptra or Radiesse rebuilds your foundation and PRX-T33 AquaGold maintains your surface, the result isn't just a treatment — it's a plan. One that works with your biology, not against it, to keep you feeling confident in your skin every single day.

Treatment Details

What to expect.

Both Sculptra and Radiesse are planned series rather than single treatments. Understanding how the process works helps set the right expectations and ensures you get the most from your investment.

Session Count

A planned series, not a one-off.

Sculptra typically requires 3–6 sessions spaced 30 days apart depending on the degree of volume loss. Radiesse protocols vary by treatment area and concern. Your provider will establish the right plan at your initial consultation — one designed around your anatomy, timeline, and goals.

Timeline

Gradual results, genuine change.

Neither Sculptra nor Radiesse delivers immediate dramatic change — and that is by design. Initial swelling after treatment may suggest early results; this resolves within days. True correction builds progressively as new collagen and elastin form, producing results that look like the best version of you rather than someone who has clearly "had something done."

Duration

One to two years of results.

Both Sculptra and Radiesse produce results that typically last one to two years — significantly longer than most hyaluronic acid fillers. Individual response varies. Intermittent maintenance treatments help sustain results over the long term, and pairing with PRX-T33 AquaGold keeps your skin in peak condition between sessions.

The Outcome

Natural. Confident. Yours.

Because both treatments rebuild your own collagen and elastin rather than simply displacing volume, the results look and feel inherently natural. There is no sudden tell, no over-treated appearance. Patients consistently report that people notice they look well-rested and refreshed — not that they have had a procedure. That confidence is the goal.

Post-Procedure

Aftercare instructions.

Following your biostimulator treatment, proper aftercare supports the best possible outcome and minimizes side effects. For Sculptra in particular, the 5-5-5 massage rule is essential — it helps ensure even collagen distribution and reduces the risk of nodule formation.

The 5-5-5 Massage Rule (Sculptra)

Massage the treated areas gently for 5 minutes, 5 times per day, for 5 days following each injection. This minimizes induration and supports even collagen formation in the treated tissue.

  • 01 Apply cloth-wrapped ice packs during the first 24 hours — 10 minutes on, 10 minutes off — to minimize swelling and bruising.
  • 02 For Sculptra: massage the injected areas 5 minutes, 5 times per day, for 5 days following each session.
  • 03 Sleep with your head elevated on two pillows for the first few days to reduce swelling.
  • 04 Avoid aspirin, NSAIDs (such as Advil), and alcohol for the first few days after treatment to minimize bruising.
  • 05 Use Tylenol for pain control if needed. Avoid hot foods and gum chewing for the first several hours post-treatment.
  • 06 No facials, massage, or strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Avoid significant sun or heat exposure until any redness has resolved.
  • 07 If bruising occurs, Arnica Montana supplements or fresh pineapple juice may help it resolve more quickly.
  • 08 Contact Desert Sands immediately for significant swelling, vision changes, excessive pain, dusky discoloration, or fever — these warrant prompt attention.
Safety Information

Risks & side effects.

Like all injectable treatments, Sculptra and Radiesse carry possible side effects. The following information is provided so you can make a fully informed decision. Your provider will review all risks with you at your consultation.

Common side effects at the injection site

  • Bruising, redness, swelling, or tenderness at injection sites
  • Delayed appearance of small bumps or nodules under the skin (more common with Sculptra — minimized by the 5-5-5 massage protocol)
  • Itching or discomfort at injection sites
  • Difficulty chewing or performing activities temporarily (Radiesse — area dependent)

Additional possible risks

  • Poor cosmetic result or inadequate correction
  • Infection or uneven distribution of product
  • Granuloma formation (firm lumps in the treatment area)
  • Allergic reaction — do not use Radiesse if allergic to any component or if you have a history of severe allergies
  • Unintentional injection into a blood vessel — rare but possible; your provider is trained to minimize this risk
  • Radiesse microspheres may be visible on X-rays and CT scans — inform your healthcare provider before imaging

Induration — a feeling of fullness or thickness — can occur with both treatments. This is a normal response to collagen formation in the treated tissue. The 5-5-5 massage protocol following Sculptra significantly reduces this response. For Radiesse, delayed-onset inflammation at the injection site has been reported following illnesses, vaccinations, or dental procedures — typically resolving on its own or with treatment.

FAQ

Common questions.

What is the difference between Sculptra and Radiesse?
Both are FDA-approved biostimulators that work by triggering your body's own collagen and elastin production rather than simply adding foreign volume. Sculptra uses Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) and is particularly effective for diffuse facial volume loss and gradual structural rebuilding. Radiesse uses Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres, providing some immediate volumizing alongside its biostimulation effects, and has been shown to boost both collagen and elastin while supporting new blood flow to nourish skin tissue. Your provider will recommend the right option or combination based on your anatomy, concerns, and goals.
How long do results from Sculptra and Radiesse last?
Both treatments produce results that typically last one to two years — longer than most hyaluronic acid fillers. Individual response varies based on the area treated, the volume used, and your body's collagen response. Intermittent maintenance treatments help sustain results over the long term. Pairing with PRX-T33 AquaGold helps maintain your skin's surface quality between injection appointments.
How many treatments will I need?
Sculptra typically requires 3 to 6 sessions spaced 30 days apart for patients with significant volume loss, using 2 to 6 vials in total. Radiesse protocols vary by treatment area. Your provider will assess your anatomy at your initial consultation and recommend a specific plan. The exact number of sessions cannot be predicted with complete accuracy before treatment begins, as individual collagen response varies.
When will I see results?
Results from both treatments emerge gradually — this is part of what makes them look so natural. Initial swelling after your first session may suggest early improvement; once this resolves over a few days, you may temporarily appear similar to before treatment. The real correction builds progressively across your full treatment series as new collagen and elastin form. Radiesse may provide some more immediate volumizing effect alongside its longer-term stimulation.
How do Sculptra and Radiesse differ from traditional fillers?
Traditional hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvéderm and Restylane add volume by injecting a gel that occupies space — results are immediate but temporary, typically lasting 6 to 18 months, and completely reversible with an enzyme. Sculptra and Radiesse are biostimulators: they activate your body's own regenerative processes to produce new collagen and elastin. The volume you gain is built from your own tissue. Results take longer to appear but tend to last longer, look more natural, and improve overall skin quality — not just volume.
What is PRX-T33 AquaGold and why does it pair well with biostimulators?
PRX-T33 AquaGold is a unique biorevitalization treatment available at Desert Sands that works at the skin's surface to stimulate collagen, improve tone and texture, and deliver active ingredients directly into the dermis — all with zero downtime. While Sculptra and Radiesse rebuild your structural foundation from deep within, PRX and AquaGold maintain and enhance your results at the surface level. Together, the three treatments address every layer of your skin, keep you in optimal condition between injection appointments, and produce a year-round natural confidence that no single treatment can achieve alone.
