Semaglutide (Oral & Injectable)
Semaglutide (GLP-1)
The FDA has approved Semaglutide and Tirzepatide for chronic weight management in adults with obesity or in overweight individuals to help them lose weight and keep it off.
Semaglutide does three main things:
- First, it binds to GLP-1 receptors on the surface of cells in the pancreas, which stimulates the release of insulin. Insulin helps regulate blood sugar levels by facilitating the uptake of glucose from the bloodstream into the cells for energy production. Semaglutide helps keep your blood sugar in check and makes you feel fuller sooner and after you start eating, so you naturally eat less.
- Second, it stays active in your body for a long time, which means it continues to help manage your blood sugar levels and hunger throughout the day.

Tirzepatide
Tirzepatide (GIP/GLP-1)
Tirzepatide functions similarly to how Semaglutide works. Like Semaglutide, it mimics the GLP-1 hormone to make the patient feel full and help them control their appetite. Additionally, Tirzepatide mimics the GIP hormone, which is also responsible for stimulating increased insulin production and creating the sensation of being full. So, while taking Tirzepatide, it’s much easier to keep your appetite under control and prevent yourself from overeating.
Like Semaglutide, Tirzepatide is typically meant to be injected weekly into the skin of the abdomen, upper arm, or thigh.
The result of Tirzepatide can vary depending on the patient, their lifestyle habits, and the dosage of medication. Studies have shown that patients taking Tirzepatide weekly for 72 weeks can expect to lose between 15% to 22.5% of their body weight.
Although some patients see results sooner, you can typically expect to notice significant weight loss after taking Tirzepatide for approximately 8 to 12 weeks.
Who is a candidate for Semaglutide or Tirzepatide?
